Industri’s two-year Live Sound Production program turns your passion for live music into a career with an in-depth, hands-on course. You’ll develop the technical skills, aural training, and operational knowledge needed to succeed in the dynamic world of live music.
Curriculum Details
This is your foundation trimester, where you are introduced to music and sound theory, as well as writing and presenting skills, that will support you through the rest of the course. You will learn how to form an argument in writing, apply concepts of signal flow on live audio equipment, and start training your ear for live sound practice, to name a few key topics covered this trimester.
In the second stage the pace picks up as you go deep into the skill of live mixing, learn the process of production planning and deliver live sound for real gigs. You will work with your classmates to produce a live music event with support from our industry-entrenched teaching staff. At this stage, you also take a deep dive into the business areas and functions of the music industry, as well as the economic drivers: essential knowledge for navigating your career like a pro.
At the end of your first year, you have a lower subject load, designed for you to get out into the industry as the summer events season kicks off. In the classroom, you delve more into managing yourself and your career as an industry professional, as well as understanding how music works, to amplify your sound practice. You also build on your project experience delivering a gig last trimester, and work with your peers to take more ownership in planning another, bigger live gig.
Your major study commences in Year Two, where you will learn to manage acoustic phenomena and reinforce sound, focusing on crafting production plans, solving sound issues by ear, and mastering advanced mic techniques. You will also participate in a placement at a live performance event, gaining firsthand experience from being part of a larger-scale gig and focusing on the management aspects of such events. In the scholarship series, you will explore the technological and social developments that have shaped the industry into what it is today.
Your major studies progress in this trimester as you refine your skills in correcting, manipulating, and balancing sound to meet industry standards. The Collaboration Project for this trimester involves staging your largest event yet, where you will apply the production planning and logistics management skills you've developed in previous trimesters. In your final scholarship unit, you'll have the opportunity to explore ways you can positively influence the industry and reflect on your role in driving change.
At the final stage of the course you tie the knowledge and skills gained so far together, delivering live sound from planning stages to post-show evaluation, with all the troubleshooting, live mixing, networking and broadcasting in between. You will also go out on a placement linked to the area of the audio industry you want to pursue after graduation, getting real-world experience in one of our partner organisations.

Claire is an Education, Operations and Partnerships all rounder here at Industri. She works on educational design with our partners to bring learning opportunities to the students as well as teaches in the business course. Claire is passionate about justice for First Nations peoples and loves having a boogie at gigs of all genres and sizes.
Academic Lead
Ben has an extensive background in tertiary-level music education, having led and managed large-scale programs from Certificate 3 to Masters, covering all areas of the music industry. Ben also performs regularly as a drummer and has toured and recorded with many great Australian artists, including Frente, The Audreys, RockWiz and Missy Higgins.
Ben's industry experience and educational leadership combine to ensure the programs he leads are industry-relevant and innovative and, most importantly, that they support students in finding viable careers.

To provide the best experience in learning and understanding live music, this course is in person only.
The credits you’ve earnt studying with will be fully transferable to the Australian Institute of
Music (AIM). This means you are able to complete a Bachelor’s degree with just one more year of study at AIM.
The indicative total cost for either of the Associate Degree courses we offer is $44,660 over two years.
However, if you wish to complete the diploma, which takes only one year, the cost is $23,320.
Fee help is available
As we partner with a registered higher education provider, we can make our courses more accessible via the Australian Government’s Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). In most cases, FEE-HELP will cover your entire course fees.
Upfront Payment
If you don’t qualify for FEE-HELP or prefer to pay as you go, upfront payment is the way to go. We’ll invoice your tuition fees each semester, and you can pay via direct deposit/transfer or credit card.

A role which may work for a venue or a touring musician travelling the world, they are responsible for shaping the sound experience in live performances, recordings, and broadcasts, using advanced equipment and techniques to create clear, balanced, and impactful audio.
Normally a member of a musician's touring party, a monitors engineer ensures that each performer on stage hears a customised, clear mix of the music and sound elements through their in-ear or on-stage monitors, they work closely with the musicians on stage.
This role suits those with planning and problem solving ability, as you will oversee the all technical and logistical aspects of live shows, coordinating with artists, crew, and venues to ensure smooth operations, on-time performances, and an exceptional audience experience.
Often employed by venues, a stage technician is a skilled professional responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the technical equipment on stage, such as lighting, sound, and special effects, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely during live performances.
